Falcon Lake

Falcon Lake is almost 42 feet low, and the water temperatures are in the mid 60âs to low 70âs in the backs of the creeks, and a little cooler on the main lake. Water clarity is pretty good in most places and real clear in others.

Black bass fishing has picked up some, with fish being caught on Zoom Flukes and plastic lizards in depths from 1 to 4 feet, with some bigger fish coming a little deeper. There are a few fish being caught on spinnerbaits. Catfishing has been excellent with some big "Blue Cats" being caught.. Striper fishing has been excellent on jigging spoons in depths from 15 to 25 feet. There have been no reports concerning white bass, or crappie.

Launching is OK at Falcon State Park, but they always recommend a 4 wheel drive, anytime the concrete ramp is not being used. The Zapata County ramp is being used with no problems. Falcon, being an international waterway on the border with Mexico, requires that Mexican fishing licenses and boat permits be purchased, when fishing the Mexican side of the lake. They are available locally.

After the beautiful weather that we had last week, the fishing has picked up considerably. There has been several fish in the 8 and 9 pound range reported, and also some excellent 5 fish stringers weighed in during some of the tournaments over the weekend.

I guide for Monster Black Bass on the Hottest Bass Lake in the Country, Falcon Lake located just outside of Zapata, Texas. 30+ stringers are still a common occurence down here. I also guide on 2 Lakes in Northern Mexico, Sugar Lake, Mexico-not known for quantity, but quality. I truly believe there are numerous 20+ lb. bass in this Lake. I also guide on Cuchillo Lake, Mexico, only 6 yrs. old and really coming into it's prime. 35-45 fish per day in the 3-8# range is common but on a recent trip we had a 10 and 11 in the boat at the same time. Come on down and experience a Bass Fishing Trip of Lifetime. Day Trips as well as 2-3-4 niters are available. Group Trips Welcome
